Andrew Kirkby and I attended a one day session in London with Brooke Shaden with guest speaker Gillian Gamble. I didn’t know what to expect from Brooke on the day. I only knew that I love her work, and that I love her sessions on Creative Live.
We lest home at 6:30 am to get to London for 9:30. At 8:50, we were a mile away and Andy said, we have time to grab something for breakfast. I laughed and jokingly said, “let’s get there first, it can take an hour to travel a mile in London sometimes.” I shouldn’t have said that. We immediately hit some roadworks and had to follow a diversion. The diversion was bumper to bumper and barely moving, as well as taking us back the way we had come in. When we eventually got back around to the location, we struggled to park. We drove around and around and ended up again going back the way we came, even to the point of the same roadworks! Arrgh! So, it took us from 8:50 to 10:05 to get the last mile, park and check in. What a nightmare! I was seriously stressed, but it was worth it.
The morning was of extreme value to me. Brooke spent the morning giving us exercises and talking to us about our work, and our legacy. She made us very uncomfortable with some exercises as we confronted our inner artist and determined what we wanted and who we really were. I squirmed a lot. I came out completely fired up and raring to go with my work. It was a real tonic to me. I am good to go!
In the afternoon, we had a talk from Gillian and then a chaotic shoot with a number of models, one being Chloë De Witte from Belgium. Amazing model! There was so much that we covered in one single day! it was a great day, indeed!
